Mission 5: Weapons
Dec. 7th, 2014 05:45 pm□ While Dante’s Nephilim abilities are formidable, his arsenal of melee weapons and firearms is arguably his more dangerous power. His fighting style revolves around his use of melee weapons and firearms, and with no less than eight or nine different weapons at his disposal, he’s a walking armory. Much like his classic counterpart, Dante possesses an instinctive proficiency for weapons. His skill with them is exemplary and he has the innate ability to use whatever weapon he picks up with great efficiency, being able to master any he encounters without any former training.
□ Dante uses a variety of a variety of bladed melee weapons with immense skill, including swords, axes, scythes, and cyclone blades, but also makes use of grapples, whips, and gauntlets. He possesses uncanny accuracy with firearms, which allows him to fire shots without needing time to aim and even make complicated trick shots that ricochet off of his environment or multiple enemies. Dante mainly makes use of twin pistols but is well-versed in other firearms including shotguns and a unique exploding dart gun. Though tending to favor his left hand, Dante seems to be ambidextrous, alternating between either hand for melee attacks with his weapons.
□ While Dante is still certainly one of the most powerful beings in his canon, able to kill thousands of demons and look good doing it, he doesn't do so with the effortless, almost bored, grace of his classic counterpart. He instead fights with a clearly self-taught style and distinct lack of refinement, often making large haymakers and wild swings that leave him tripping over himself. Despite his wild and unpolished form, he’s still fast, strong, and agile enough to compensate for his lack of style, since he's been fighting since he was a child and never had formal training.
□ Dante’s main equipment is his sword Rebellion and his handguns Ebony and Ivory. Rebellion is a claymore-styled ethereal longsword that can morph into different types of other weapons. Its forms include a demonic battle-axe named Arbiter, an angelic scythe named Osiris, a pair of demonic gauntlets named Eryx, a pair of angelic shuriken named Aquila, and a claw-like grappling hook whip named Ophion. Ebony & Ivory are a pair of semi-automatic pistols with curved grips, one silver (Ivory) and one black (Ebony). Dante also wields the franchise staple Revenant, a sawed-off shotgun that he fires one-handed like a badass, and Kablooey, a demonic weapon that acts like a dart gun and a grenade launcher with homing capabilities and remote detonation. All three of his firearms use an unlimited number of "magic bullets" created through Dante’s powers rather than requiring true ammunition.
★ Rebellion:
Dante's main melee weapon, a two-handed claymore-styled straight longsword that he usually wields in one hand. It is a keepsake left for Dante as a memento by his father, Sparda, so that he could protect himself from the demonic hordes that he battles. As Rebellion is connected to Dante's hybrid heritage, it also has the ability to absorb energy from opponents and then transform into different weapons on the fly, allowing Dante to use multiple weapons. The ethereal Rebellion is linked to the glowing insignia tattoo on his back, which flashes whenever the sword changes to another weapon. Dante doesn’t have or even need a sheath for the weapon since he can affix it to his back via the tattoo as he wishes. He can also summon and banish his sword at will, so technically, he's never unarmed.
★ Osiris:
Dante's first angelic form for the Rebellion. Osiris is a large, light, and speedy scythe with a light blue hue to it, which represents its angelic nature. Both powerful and reliable, it specializes in aerial attacks and its abilities are centered around giving Dante weightlessness and agility in order to move through the air and traverse the environment with ease. The blade is long and curved, coming off the tip of the snaith at its heel. The snaith itself looks to be made out of wood, and it has two grips protruding from opposite ends that resemble whittled branches. Dante uses these handles to help him spin the weapon while he attacks. The pommel on the bottom of the snaith is the same as the grip of his Rebellion, owing to the weapon's shape-shifting ability. When it is used to attack, Osiris leaves behind a light blue streak in its wake and sharp orange flashes when it hits.
★ Aquila:
Dante’s second angelic form for the Rebellion. Aquila is a set of shuriken-like blades with a light blue tint like the rest of his angelic weapons. It greatly increases Dante's attack speed and range, emitting sharp energy waves, rings, crescents, and even copies of itself during attacks. It resembles a pair of large, three-pointed cyclone blades with curved edges, held in each hand. This is one of the few weapons that holds little resemblance to the Rebellion. When it is used to attack, Aquila leaves behind streaks of white and dark blue and ghostly images of itself when striking.
★ Arbiter:
Dante's first demonic form for the Rebellion. Arbiter is a massive, oversized battle-axe with a red-and-black color scheme, which represents its demonic nature. A weapon of great heft, it is crushes almost anything with its thunderous strikes and focuses on smashing through shields and brute force techniques, enabling Dante to make whatever path he needs through his surroundings. The red blade is large and curves over some of the shaft as many bearded axes do and is covered with spikes along its top spine and sides. The grip is the same as his Rebellion, owing to the weapon's shape-shifting quality, but its weight forces Dante to use both hands when he utilizes the weapon. When it is used to attack, Arbiter leaves behind a dark red streak in its wake and an eruption of red and orange sparks as it hits the ground or its enemies.
★ Eryx:
Dante’s second demonic form for the Rebellion. Eryx is a pair of magical gauntlets that provide Dante with sheer brute force and increase his already formidable strength, allowing him to charge techniques for greater power. It resembles disproportionately large metal fists or boxing gloves that glow a demonic red. At the forearms, the weapon’s spiral engravings resembles the grip of Dante's Rebellion, owing to the weapon's shape-shifting quality. When in use, Eryx leaves behind a fiery trail and a small explosion upon impact, and at higher charge levels, is accompanied by large spectral fists when attacking.
★ Ophion:
Dante’s unique weapon that has both an angelic form and a demonic form. Ophion is considered a whip but is essentially a length of chain that can extend and contract itself as needed, functioning as an extremely resourceful tool for both combat and exploration. While in Angel mode, it resembles a white chain with a snake-like head coming out of Rebellion's grip, complete with a jaw that clasps onto targets. While in Demon mode, it resembles a grappling hook made from a black chain-like cord with a red, claw-shaped head connected to a spool near Rebellion's grip. In exploration, Dante uses it to catch himself if he falls off a platform, tether himself if he needs to go over a ledge, pull items towards him, rearrange items from a distance, swing over gaps he can’t risk simply jumping across, and other environmental traversal activities. In combat, it not only serves as a grapple to pull himself towards enemies or enemies towards himself from a long range, but also functions as a whip by lashing enemies with the chain, striking with the heads, or entangling them within the length of the weapon.
★ Ebony & Ivory:
Ebony & Ivory are Dante's trademark pistols that he uses for rapid-fire gunslinging and occasional exploration or intimidation. While they lack strength, Dante's ability to pull the triggers with inhuman speed as well as his enhanced dexterity make them versatile weapons for any range and orientation. Both weapons have the same design, with Ebony as the black pistol and Ivory as the white. The pistols resemble Desert Eagles, with stylized curved grips twisting into sharp points. Near the bore of each pistol are engravings of scrollwork, and each also sports a ring hammer. Like his classic counterpart’s guns, Dante’s Ebony & Ivory weapons never need to be reloaded as he somehow fills the chambers with rounds made from his own powers. They most likely can't be reloaded by physical means either, as they lack a magazine release or any sort of detachable magazines. This prevents anyone else from using the guns.
★ Revenant:
Revenant is Dante’s shotgun and as such it lacks the speed of his pistols but offers much more power and better crowd control options. A hunting shotgun with a sawn-off bore, it has no stock, only a simple grip, and an engraved frame underlining the barrel. Dante’s supernatural strength enables him to wield the gun with one hand, unfazed by the recoil. The weapon itself fires a spread-style round, clearing groups of enemies from a distance or blowing single opponents away at close range. Unlike the classic shotgun, Dante’s Revenant is not exactly the same break-loading style, and its spent shells eject upon firing. It’s unknown how or why this happens, as Dante never reloads the weapon and presumably uses the same power to arm the gun as he does with his pistols.
★ Kablooey:
Kablooey is strange firearm given to Dante by his brother, which fires explosive charges that stick to its targets. It acts like a combination of dart gun and grenade launcher, complete with homing capabilities and remote detonation. In the human world, it looks like a simple taser, but once it transforms, it gains the appearance of an old, fat revolver with a decorative, circular collar wrapped around the barrel. Similar in size to his pistols, the weapon is metallic grey along the body with a mint green handle, has many strange components in its design, but has a normal-looking trigger like most guns. The collar, however, is an ancient component, imprinted with strange designs, and is able to spread open and split into many segments, each of them focusing glowing teal energy at its epicenter. This energy forms the demonic darts the gun then fires, each one packed with explosive power and able to be detonated manually. The darts have a mild homing capability, so once Dante shoots, it can curve its trajectory on its own to better embed themselves into a target. The darts deal minimal damage to the enemy, but once they detonate, they’re capable of ripping chunks from the strongest of his foes and tearing apart weaker ones instantly. Normally, he’ll attempt to stick anywhere from four to six (the max) darts into a target before exploding them.
